Initial Meeting at Castle Pine Library

Dear Neighbors,

Thank you to everyone who attended yesterday’s meeting at the Castle Pines Library—we had a great turnout! For those who couldn’t join, this email highlights the most important updates and next steps.

Scope of Effort

Our mission is clear: Keep McArthur Drive a dead-end road.

Allowing it to become a through-street would endanger children, recreational users, wildlife, and property values. This is the central focus of our coalition and the reason we need everyone’s involvement.

Why This Matters

We are deeply concerned about the Hillcamp development and their interest in opening McArthur Drive as a permanent access road. Since our meeting, we’ve uncovered additional documents and letters confirming these discussions are underway (snippets attached below).

Opening McArthur Drive would:

  • Put children walking to school at risk at an already dangerous intersection

  • Endanger recreational use by hikers, bikers, equestrians, and families walking dogs

  • Increase wildfire danger and emergency response risks

  • Reduce property values across our community

Key Updates

  1. Legal Fund:

    • Susan Tillman is collecting contributions for an unincorporated non-profit association fund dedicated to legal fees.

    • Address: 476 McArthur Drive

    • We anticipate needing a minimum $10,000 - $20,000 retainer. Additional payment methods will be set up soon.

  2. Legal Representation:

    • Interviews with law firms are underway.

    • We hope to retain counsel within the next two weeks—dependent on raising enough funds for the retainer.

  3. Take Action – Call Officials NOW:

    • Tell them we do NOT want McArthur Drive opened up.

    • Contact:

      • Lone Tree Planning – (303) 708-1818 (Ask for Chuck Darnell)

      • Douglas County Planning – (303) 660-7460

      • Douglas County Engineering – Janet Hernan, Director of Public Works: (303) 660-7490

      • Douglas County Commissioners – George Teal, Kevin Van Winkle, Abe Laydon: (303) 660-7491 | bocc@douglas.co.us

  4. Spread the Word:

    • Talk to your neighbors and friends.

    • Share the risks and encourage them to call the county and state their opposition.
